About Our Firm

In 1988, Hoyt Samples and Mike Jennings formed the law firm of Samples & Jennings in Chattanooga. While very different, the two men complemented each other well. Samples, a brilliant academic of the law, was well known for his acute legal mind and tenacious trial advocacy. Jennings, also a top law school graduate, was jovial and well-suited for building lifelong relationships with clients.

Samples, Jennings, Clem & Fields, PLLC still embodies these attributes by providing uncompromising and tenacious legal representation. The firm has developed a strong reputation for public service. In 2004, Chris Clem, a Tennessee state legislator, joined the firm as an experienced and well-respected trial lawyer. In 2015, Jim Fields, then chair of the Hamilton County Commission, joined the firm, adding experience with bankruptcy, banking and creditor rights.

The firm’s client base and influence have now grown well beyond Chattanooga, throughout southeast Tennessee and north Georgia. With more than 160 years of combined legal experience, the firm provides representation in all state and federal courts in both Tennessee and Georgia.
